WHAT??
"What on earth is a portrait painting bootcamp??", you may ask. I'm not totally sure myself....
I kid!
This is a class designed to get your summer going, get those wrist moving, and your eyes seeing. Since we meet every saturday for three weeks, you will get to ask as many questions as you want ("why does my paint lift off when it is tacky?" or "is that color warm or cool???"). I'm going to give you a lot of information, everything from set-up, mediums, lighting, color mixing charts, drawing ideas, poses, starting help, finishing touches, lost/found edges....
These classes are NOT taught on a building basis, but be sure that I will give you new idea for all three classes. Get your mind, eyes and hands ready to throw some serious paint around.
Portrait Painting Workshops in 2010 at Art Warehouse
I am teaching all-day workshops in Chattanooga, TN at Art Warehouse. Although students are encouraged to take all three workshops, they are taught separately. These workshops focus on painting portraits from life. We will be discussing proportions, values, edge treatment, and color mixing as well as set-up of the model. Although oil painting will be discussed predominantly, all 2D media are welcomed. These classes are for all levels. (photo Tim Cofield)

Supply list for Mia Bergeron’s Workshops
SUGGESTED Supply List: Easel: any french landscape easel of folding easel that is portable. Students are responsible
to bring own easels, unless Art Warehouse is notified ahead of time for possible use of a
table easel. Palette: wood, glass, or plastic . Please do not bring white, paper disposable palettes. Solvents: I use odorless mineral spirits (turpenoid). Please make sure solvents are
ODORLESS. Paper towels: I use Viva Canvas: 12”X16” or 11"x 14" Smooth oil -primed stretched linen or linen panel.
Paints:
Any brand is fine, unless noted. (I use mostly Windsor and Newton and Rembrandt)

Cadmium lemon

Raw Sienna (or Yellow Ochre)
Burnt Sienna
Transparent Oxide Red (Rembrandt)
Ivory black
Sap Green

Brushes: I use a variety.
I recommend Royal Langnickels, both the 5590 Series Royal Sables, and the bristles. In the
5590 series (these are extra-long flats), sizes 16 and 20 are very useful. In the bristles, I use
the Filberts in a variety of sizes. Just make sure you have a variety of sizes and shapes,
especially flats.
Equipment:
Jar with a tight lid (Silicoils are great, or Mason Jars) for your solvents.
